Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to help you plan your journey

Booking

Understanding how our booking system works helps you secure the right vehicle for your trip. We connect you with local operators across Azerbaijan who manage their own inventory and availability.

How do I book a vehicle with 4Drive Azerbaijan?

Enter your pickup location, dates, and times on the homepage. Browse available vehicles, select one that suits your needs, and complete the booking form. You will pay a booking advance online by card, then receive a voucher by email with full details and the contact information of the local operator handling your reservation.

Can I book a specific make and model?

Yes. Each listing shows the exact vehicle - Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Nissan Patrol - with specifications including transmission type, drivetrain, and fuel type. What you book is what you collect at the counter.

What if the vehicle I want is not available for my dates?

Availability depends on the local operator's fleet and current bookings. Try adjusting your pickup or return dates by a day, or consider a similar vehicle. Popular models like the Niva Travel or Land Cruiser can book out during peak travel periods, so early reservation helps.

Payment and Advance

Our payment structure separates the online booking advance from the balance you settle when collecting the vehicle. Each component serves a different purpose in the reservation process.

How much do I pay online when I book?

You pay a booking advance by card online to confirm your reservation. The exact amount is shown during checkout. This advance is part of the total cost, not an extra fee. The remaining balance is paid when you pick up the vehicle.

What payment methods do you accept for the balance at pickup?

The accepted payment methods for the remaining balance depend on the specific vehicle you have booked. Some operators accept debit cards and cash, others require a credit card. The allowed methods are clearly stated in the listing before you book and confirmed in your voucher. For more information, visit our payment methods page.

Can I pay the full amount online?

No. The booking advance is paid online by card. The balance is settled at pickup using the payment method specified for that vehicle. This structure allows local operators to verify your documents and complete the agreement when you collect the keys.

Deposit and Credit Card

A deposit is a temporary hold placed on your card by the local operator as security during your hire period. This is separate from the booking advance and depends on the vehicle and insurance coverage chosen.

Do all vehicles require a deposit hold?

No. Many vehicles on our platform are available with no deposit hold at all. These options are clearly marked in the search results. For vehicles that do require a deposit, the amount and card type needed are shown in the listing details and your voucher.

If I book a vehicle with no deposit, what about damage liability?

The absence of a deposit hold and the damage excess are independent. Even without a deposit hold, you remain responsible for the excess stated in your insurance terms if damage occurs. The excess is the maximum amount you would pay out of pocket in the event of an incident, regardless of whether a deposit was taken.

What if I only have a debit card?

Check the vehicle listing carefully. Some vehicles accept debit cards for both payment and deposit. For others that specify a credit card requirement, consider requesting a temporary limit increase from your bank if you plan to use a debit card, or choose a no-deposit vehicle to avoid the hold entirely.

Documents and Age

Local operators must verify your eligibility and legal standing before handing over a vehicle. Requirements vary slightly by operator but follow consistent principles across Azerbaijan.

What documents do I need to collect my vehicle?

You need a valid driving licence held for at least one year, your passport, and the booking voucher we email you. An International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your foreign licence. The operator will check these documents and ask you to sign the agreement.

What is the minimum age to hire a vehicle?

Most vehicles require the driver to be at least 21 years old with one year of driving experience. Some larger or more powerful models set the minimum age at 23 or 25. The specific age requirement for each vehicle is stated in its listing.

Pickup and Return

Collection and return procedures depend on which local operator manages your booking. Locations range from airport desks to city offices and hotel delivery, with options shown during the booking process.

Where do I pick up the vehicle?

Pickup location options are displayed when you search and confirmed in your voucher. Common locations include Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), offices in Nasimi District in Baku, and delivery to your hotel. The voucher contains precise directions and the operator's contact details.

How does the vehicle inspection work?

At pickup, you and the operator walk around the vehicle together to note any existing scratches, dents, or marks. These are recorded in the agreement you both sign. At return, the same process confirms the vehicle's condition. Take photos on your phone for your own records.

Can I return the vehicle outside office hours?

Some operators offer after-hours drop-off arrangements, but this must be confirmed in advance. Standard office hours are Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (GMT+4). If your flight departs early or late, contact the operator using the details in your voucher to discuss options.

Driving in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan drives on the right. Road conditions vary from smooth highways connecting major cities to unpaved mountain tracks requiring high clearance and four-wheel drive.

Can I take the vehicle to Georgia or Iran?

Cross-border travel to Georgia or Iran is possible with written permission from the operator, arranged in advance. Not all vehicles or operators allow this, so specify your travel plans when booking. Additional paperwork and insurance coverage are required for border crossings.

What are the speed limits and driving rules?

Urban limits are 60 km/h, open roads 90 km/h, and highways 110 km/h. The M1 and M2 highways are modern toll roads requiring electronic payment devices, available as an optional extra from the operator. Fuel is widely available at SOCAR, BP, and Aral stations throughout the country.

Which roads need a 4x4 vehicle?

The route from Quba to Khinaliq village covers about 60 km of unpaved mountain road requiring part-time 4WD and high ground clearance. The final section to Lahic village, about 180 km from Baku, is also unpaved. Coastal Caspian roads and the M2 to Ganja or M4 to Shaki are fully paved and suitable for any vehicle.

Changes and Cancellation

Plans shift. We work with each operator's individual policy on amendments and cancellations. Review your voucher for the specific terms that apply to your booking.

Can I change my pickup date or time after booking?

Contact us at [email protected] as soon as possible. We will check availability with the operator. Changes are subject to the operator's policy and vehicle availability. Small time adjustments are often possible; date changes depend on existing bookings.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms vary by operator and are stated in your voucher. Generally, cancellations made well in advance incur lower fees than those made close to the pickup date. Read the terms in your confirmation email and reach out to our team via the contact page if you need to cancel.
